President Kais Saied Commemorates Evacuation Day Anniversary in Bizerte

Bizerte:President Kais Saied visited the Martyrs' Square in Bizerte on Thursday morning to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of Evacuation Day. During the visit, he paid tribute by saluting the national flag, listening to the national anthem, and reviewing an honour guard from the armed forces. He also laid a wreath at the memorial and recited Al-Fatiha in honor of the martyrs.

According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, President Saied met with several veterans who participated in the fierce battles that occurred in Bizerte in July 1961. These battles were marked by the rallying cry 'Evacuation and Arms,' with Tunisians making significant sacrifices, resulting in thousands killed or wounded, as they defended the nation's independence and sovereignty.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of National Defence and members of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. Afterward, President Saied headed to downtown Bizerte, where he interacted with a large gathering of citizens. He remarked on Tunisia's ongoing struggle for liberation, emphasizing that the country would settle for nothing less than victory despite considerable challenges.

President Saied highlighted the deep awareness among Tunisians of their historical challenges, many of which he attributed to longstanding corruption and deliberate obstacles created by those evading accountability. He urged a national effort to fulfill the goals of the revolution and honor the martyrs' legacy.

Following his engagements in the city, President Saied presided over a commissioning ceremony at the main naval base in Bizerte for a new naval patrol vessel constructed in Tunisia. He praised this achievement as a precursor to future manufacturing projects, underscoring the capability of Tunisia's youth, scientists, and armed forces in innovation across various sectors.
