Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has advised the 37 newly sworn-in High Court judges to administer justice to all manner of persons without fear or favour. The President made the remarks when he presided over the swearing-in ceremony at the Presidency in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the group of appointees includes 31 Circuit Court Judges, five private legal practitioners, and one state attorney. President Mahama emphasized that the occasion was not just an appointment but a renewal of the nation's commitment to justice as a pillar of democracy, reminding the judges that their oath was a covenant with the people to rise above fear, favour, and friendship.

The President highlighted the critical role of the High Court as a forum where citizens directly engage with the law, showcasing examples of a market woman defending her land rights, a young entrepreneur seeking justice in a contract dispute, and a journalist defending freedom of speech. He reiterated Nelson Mandela's sentiment that a nation is judged by its treatment of its lowest citizens, emphasizing that the faith of millions in democracy hinges on the fairness and compassion with which these judges administer justice.

President Mahama also noted the evolving societal landscape, where citizens actively follow and critique judicial decisions, urging the judiciary to remain relevant and accessible. Justice must engage with the people, not remain hidden, he declared.

Justice Francis Asong Obuojo, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude to President Mahama for their appointment, assuring him of their commitment to delivering justice to the citizenry.
