President of Republic receives AICTO Secretary-General

President Beji Caid Essebsi received, on Thursday, Secretary-General of the Arab Information and Communication Technology Organisation (AICTO) , Mohamed Ben Amor,.

The first AICTO official presented to the Head of State an overview of the activities of the Arab organisation and the results of its annual meetings, held in Tunis, from April 10 to 12.

The meeting, which was also attended by the heads of delegations participating in these meetings, also made it possible to present the parallel activities organised on the occasion of these meetings, including the inauguration of the centre of excellence for satellite navigation in el Ghazela technopole, carried out in partnership with China.

The centre is the first cooperation project in this area between the League of Arab Countries and China allowing AICTO member countries to exchange experiences and expertise and develop research activities and applications related to this system.

The Head of State underlined, on this occasion, the importance of the ICT sector in the development of the economies of the countries, commending, in this connection, the efforts made by the organisation to boost cooperation between the Arab countries in this dynamic sector and reiterating the continued support of Tunisia to this organisation in order to develop its activities and achieve its objectives.

He said that achieving a better future for the Arab region requires the use of new technologies and their exploitation for the achievement of the comprehensive development goals.

The Arab Information and Communication Technology Organisation (AICTO) created in 2001, is an organisation operating under the auspices of the League of Arab States.
