PRESIDENT OF TUNISIAN ELECTORAL AUTHORITY ELECTED AFTER 4 FAILED SESSION

TUNIS, The Tunisian Assembly of People’s Representatives, or parliament, elected Mohamed Mansri as the new president of the Independent Higher Authority for Elections (ISIE) after four failed sessions.

Mansri, 43, won 115 votes, surpassing the required majority of 109 votes in favor. The position has been vacant since May when his predecessor Chafik Sarsar resigned.

Originally from Sidi Bouzid, a governorate in the center of the country, he integrated the ISIE regional office in Sidi Bouzid during 2011-2014.

In January 2017, Mansri, a lawyer by profession, was elected member of the ISIE national office representing the body of lawyers. He has three children.

The first challenge for the new ISIE president is to organize the next municipal elections, scheduled for March 25, 2018, which were initially set for December 2017.
