Carthage: President of the Republic Kas Saed expressed strong disapproval of the ammonia distribution practices in certain regions of the country, such as Bizerte, Jendouba, and Siliana, describing them as criminal activities. This statement came during his meeting on Wednesday afternoon with Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Ezzedine Ben Cheikh.
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the President highlighted the plight of small farmers who are deprived of essential materials due to speculative practices and quota manipulation. He drew parallels with past incidents involving the National Feed Office (ONF), where individuals allegedly hoarded fodder to sell below ONF's prices, aiming to bankrupt the office and misappropriate public funds.
In addition, the President urged intensified efforts to support the National Olive Oil Office in fulfilling its responsibilities despite restricted storage capacity. He emphasized the importance of continuing the distribution of olive oil and part of the date crop within the domestic market, especially to mutual societies, while exploring new export markets.
The President also stressed the necessity for regular maintenance of dams and wadis, highlighting neglect in several water infrastructures, particularly the Akhmes dam in Siliana, whose storage capacity previously ranged from 5 million m³ to 7 million m³. He noted that many wadis have not been cleaned for decades, and hill lakes have been filled with sediments since the 1970s.
