Tunis:President Kaïs Saïed recently convened a meeting with Minister of Cultural Affairs Amina Srarfi and Secretary-General of the Higher Education Council Mohamed Ali Boughdiri to discuss advancements in the national education system.
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, Amina Srarfi chaired the inaugural session of the Higher Education Council owing to her status as the institution's most senior member. President Saïed emphasized the importance of the council's establishment, stating it was deliberately included in Tunisia's charter following national consultation prior to the constitution's drafting.
The President asserted that the council is a reflection of a firm belief in education's role as a component of national security. He stressed the need to develop a national education system that offers equal opportunities to all, incorporating the principles of freedom and social justice from an early age in primary education.
President Saïed criticized past reform attempts as biased and superficial, suggesting they lacked genuine intent. He proposed creating cultural clubs and ensuring provisions like transport, school meals, boarding, clothing, and supplies in collaboration with relevant authorities to enhance learning conditions.
He concluded by expressing confidence that Tunisia, historically a center for influential scholars, will continue to thrive with a democratic national education system that is accessible to everyone, turning constitutional principles of equality into reality.
