President Saïed meets with Ministers of Justice and Finance on confiscated assets and penal reconciliation

(TAP) – President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed received on Friday, at Carthage Palace, Ministers of Justice and Finance, respectively Leila Jaffel and Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia.

The meeting focused on confiscated property and cases that have been postponed more than once and remained for years in the drawers of the courts without being decided, says a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.

The preparation, as soon as possible, of draft texts on criminal reconciliation was also on the agenda of the meeting.

The criminal reconciliation should allow Tunisians to return part of the funds looted during this period marked by the establishment of community companies in several regions of the Republic, the same source said.

During a previous meeting with the Minister of Justice on September 16, Saïed had called for the need to hasten the implementation of the decree-law on criminal reconciliation to return the money to Tunisians.

The decree-law on criminal reconciliation was promulgated on March 20 after a marathon of meetings between the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.

The text includes 50 articles relating to criminal reconciliation for financial and economic crimes that have resulted in illicit enrichment affecting the resources of the state, local authorities, public structures or other parties.
