President of the Republic Kais Saied, during his talks with his counterparts and senior European and African officials, evoked the political situation in Tunisia and the reasons that led him to take the exceptional measures required by the circumstances.
During his talks, the Head of State reiterated his firm commitment to rights and freedoms, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi told TAP on Friday, adding these discussions took place in a climate of «honesty and total transparency.»
Jerandi welcomed the choice of Tunisia among six African countries that will have their own production of mRNA vaccines, saying that this choice is a recognition of Tunisia and its expertise in the pharmaceutical industry.
This initiative will allow Tunisia to produce the coronavirus vaccine and other vaccines, the FM indicated. This could help Tunisia host the headquarters of the African Medicines Agency, created in 2018 under the African Union.
Tunisia had expressed its wish to host the permanent headquarters of the African Medicines Agency.
A specialised delegation of the African Union will soon visit Tunisia to learn about the development of the pharmaceutical industry sector.
The World Health Organisation said on Friday six African countries – Tunisia Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa – will be the first on the continent to receive the technology needed to produce mRNA vaccines.
