The Bar Association will hold next Wednesday in Tunis a joint press conference with the defence collective of the two martyrs Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi to present the latest developments in the case of Chokri Belaïd’s assassination, President of the Bar Association, Hatem Meziou, told TAP.
He was speaking Friday in Sfax, on the sidelines of a demonstration organised on the occasion of the 10th commemoration of the assassination of the lawyer and former secretary general of the United Democratic Patriots Party (Ppdu), Chokri Belaid, at the initiative of the local sections of the National Bar Association, the Tunisian General Labour Union and the Tunisian Human Rights League.
The President of the Bar said that “the process of revealing the truth” about Belaïd’s assassination “continues and is beginning to bear fruit”, thanks to the efforts of the collective defending the two martyrs.
Although 10 years have elapsed since Belaïd’s assassination and despite delays in the investigation, he said, some files related to the main investigation, namely the murder, have revealed important new elements.
He added: “We are absolutely convinced that the Tunisian justice system will soon reveal the whole truth about this heinous crime.
The event, which was attended by trade unionists and human rights activists, included a screening of a documentary on the life of Chokri Belaïd, followed by a debate on the activist journey of this lawyer and left-wing leader.
On February 6, 2013, Chokri Belaïd was shot three times at close range at the foot of his home in El Menzah VI.
