Prices 15 to 30% lower in “producer-to-consumer” outlets

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed told reporters as he visited a producer-to-consumer point of sale in Habib Bourguiba Avenue on Thursday that prices of products offered in these spaces are 15 or even 20% lower than other sales areas.

22 outlets have been set up in all the country’s governorates, said Chahed, noting the availability of various food products during the Holy month and the effort made by the government to control and supply of markets with necessary products.

Moreover, the PM said the government has made available to more than 31 thousand families in the different regions of the country “baskets”, whose value is estimated at 75 dinars throughout the entire Holy month of Ramadan.

This action is within the framework of the anchoring of the social role of the State towards the neediest groups.

For his part, the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Samir Taieb said his department will launch 25 other producer-to-consumer points of sale in all governorates, namely Tunis, Manouba, Nabeul, Gabes, Monastir …, in order to control prices.

The president of the Tunisian Organisation to Inform Consumers (OTIC), Lotfi Riahi, said prices proposed in the “producer- to-consumer” space do not meet consumers’ expectations and that they do not differ much from the prices applied in the rest of the ordinary markets.

He also considered that it was more efficient to locate these spaces in densely populated neighborhoods, so that the maximum of citizens can benefit.

He recalled that his organisation had asked the Ministry of Trade to set up permanent sales outlets in all municipal markets in the country in order to combat speculation.

The “producer-to-consumer” tent, which runs until June 5, 2018, offers a multitude of agricultural products, including dates, fruits, white and red meat, fish…
