Primary energy balance: 1.3 Mtoe deficit at end of April 2021

The primary energy balance sheet showed, at the end of April 2021, a deficit of 1.3 megatons of oil equivalent (Mtoe), against a deficit of 1.4 Mtoe, in April 2020, accounting for the fee of the passage of Algerian gas, according to the document of the energy situation that was published by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines.
The rate of energy independence was thus at the level of 58% during the first four months of 2021, against 48% in 2020.
Without accounting for the fee, the energy independence rate would be limited to 47% in April 2021.
The drop in the deficit is explained by the 39% growth in primary energy resources, due to the increase in national oil and gas production and also the fee for the passage of Algerian gas, which rose by more than 197% during the first four months of 2021, compared with the same period of the previous year.
