Tunis: Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri chaired a Small Cabinet Meeting at the Kasbah Palace on Saturday, focusing on the advancements in digital transformation projects. The meeting emphasized the progress made in the first half of 2026, taking note of 114 ongoing projects and the forthcoming launch of the 'Khadamet' mobile application, which will provide access to over 40 online administrative services. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the meeting underscored the importance of digitalisation in modernising administrative processes, enhancing transparency, fighting corruption, and addressing regional disparities, in alignment with President Kais Saied's directives. A significant announcement was the upcoming launch of the 'Khadamet' app, which will be accessible via the MobileID digital identity. This application will allow citizens to perform administrative tasks and pay associated fees electronically, using bank and postal cards as well as digital wallets. The government's achievements in th e first half of 2026 include launching the National Investor Platform, fully digitalizing interactions with the National Business Register, facilitating remote passport renewal for Tunisians abroad, rolling out electronic tax stamps nationwide, and opening 34 digital service centres across 21 governorates. Additional measures include online requests for translated civil-status documents, business tax registration, the 'TSmir' building permit platform, the Single School Life Portal, the khadamet.gov.tn portal, and 'Digital Hospital' services. Currently, 114 projects are under implementation, with several showing completion rates above 90%. These projects encompass remote applications for residence certificates, online driving licence renewals, nationwide remote passport services, and remote applications for national identity cards and driving licenses. They also include the National Health Identifier Register and the modernisation of information systems for the Tunisian Customs and the National Health Insuran ce Fund (CNAM). The meeting also addressed telecommunications infrastructure, highlighting efforts to deploy fibre-optic networks nationwide, enhance connectivity in underserved areas, and improve international linkages. In terms of financial inclusion, the focus was on promoting digital wallets and encouraging telecom operators to invest in the fintech sector, alongside the ongoing implementation of the national cybersecurity strategy. Minister of Communication Technologies Sofiane Hemissi outlined the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2026-2030, which aims to regulate AI development while protecting privacy and national sovereignty. Tunisia aims to leverage its 29th-place global ranking in AI scientific publications, academic expertise, pioneering legal frameworks like the Startup Act, and strategic geographical position to become a regional hub for exporting digital solutions. Concluding the meeting, PM Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri emphasized the need for rigorous governance and effective interminister ial coordination, noting that digital transformation extends beyond digitizing procedures to include comprehensive re-engineering to better serve citizens and the national economy.
