Production suspended at chemical group following open strike

The Tunisian chemical group in the regions of Tunis, Sfax, Gabes and Gafsa is in total stoppage for 3 days due to the strike of employees, said the Union of Petroleum and Chemicals of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), on Saturday.

The union, in a statement, expressed astonishment at the indifference of the ministry in charge, of the suspension of production in all units.

Employees of the chemical group have been on an open strike since February 24 because of the suspension of salaries and the failure to respect previous agreements.

The union voiced concern that parties in power are pushing for the bankruptcy of the chemical group, in order to sell it.

The Tunisian chemical group is one of the pillars of the Tunisian economy; it ranks first in terms of foreign currency imports and offers important employment opportunities.
