Programme of exploitation of agricultural state lands starts

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries announced Friday the start of the programme of exploitation of agricultural state lands for rental throughout the country.

These lands will be exploited by development and farming companies, technical lots, cooperative agricultural production units and unstructured farms, to encourage agricultural investment and integrate young people into the economic cycle.

According to a press release, the ministry will provide investors with 40 state-owned farms for the establishment of agricultural exploitation and development companies spread over 11 governorates and 26 delegations, covering an area of 24 thousand hectares for a total investment estimated at 64 million dinars.

The technical lots, with a total area of 1241 hectares, are spread over 11 governorates and 19 delegations. The results of the sorting and evaluation made it possible to propose 36 lots out of a total of 37 in accordance with the specifications for the rental of agricultural technician lots.

With regard to the public lands to be exploited by the agricultural production units, there are 18 farms spread over 10 thousand hectares and spread over 14 delegations.

The Ministry of Agriculture has specified that the unstructured public land for renting is estimated in a first stage at about 10 thousand hectares and is spread over a number of governorates that do not have cooperative units at their disposal like Sidi Bouzid, Gafsa, Bizerte and the governorates of Greater Tunis, Tozeur, Sousse, Jendouba, Sfax and Nabeul.
