Proposals for adjustment of trade balance between Tunisia and Turkey

Adjust the trade balance between Tunisia and Turkey, facilitate the disposal of Tunisian exports on the Turkish market, in particular phosphates and by-products, agricultural produce and certain industrial products, were the focus of a meeting held in Istanbul between Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Hichem Ben Ahmed and Turkish Minister of Economy Nihat ZEYBEKCI.

Ben Ahmed recalled during this meeting organised as part of the 33rd Ministerial Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Co-operation of the Organisation for Islamic Co-operation (COMCEC) that Tunisia is endeavouring to control its imports by enhancing the transparency of economic transactions and consumer protection.

He emphasized the importance of the development of Turkish investments in Tunisia and the creation of joint projects in the sectors of textile-clothing and home appliances industry.

For his part, the Turkish Minister affirmed his country’s willingness to study the measures that will help step up Tunisian exports and establish bilateral projects in the phosphates and by-products field.

The two officials agreed on the occasion to hold a meeting of the Joint Commission in early 2018 to consider proposals to balance trade between the two countries.

The deficit recorded by Tunisia with Turkey is worth 1,496.8 Million Dinars.
