Reducing port waiting time main objective of CTN (Official)

“Reducing the waiting time at the port is the main objective of the CTN for this season,” said Thursday the CEO of the Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation (CTN), Ali Belgacem, during a visit Thursday to Port of La Goulette to inspect the conditions of return of Tunisian expatriates.

He said that the journey from Marseille to La Goulette on board the “Carthage” Ferry carrying 2047 passengers and 603 cars, is among the scheduled trips during the peak season.

The summer season for sea crossings over the period from June 19 to September 30, 2017, expects the transport of 200 thousand travellers, he said in a statement to TAP.

Belgacem reported that the previous season had experienced some dysfunctions, including congestion and delays in travel, ranging from 90 minutes to 105 minutes and slow customs procedures.

“A periodic evaluation is carried out from the arrival of the traveller until the completion of the customs procedures,” said the official.

Belgacem also highlighted the programme of 147 trips this season, in addition to two crossings recently decided at the port of Zarzis.

Transport Minister Anis Ghedira said several measures have been taken to facilitate the return of Tunisians resident abroad and to improve the services of the Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation (CTN), which will reduce to 15 minutes the exit of cars from the port.

He said that the decision to organise two return trips from the port of Zrazis to Marseille (France) was taken during this season for the benefit of travellers from southern Tunisia.

He added that a direct shipping line between the ports of Marseille and Zarzis will be opened in addition to the schedule of trips every two or three weeks, during the next season and when needed.

The Minister stressed the importance of the audit operations carried out by the Ministry annually in order to assess the travel conditions of Tunisian expatriates, avoid malfunctions in the coming year and improve services on the ship.
