Regional Maritime University Partners with Samana GH Ghana to Boost Graduate Employment

Accra: The Regional Maritime University (RMU) has taken a pivotal step toward enhancing graduate employability by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Samana GH Ghana, in collaboration with the National Association for Heavy-Duty Equipment Operators Ghana (NAHEOG).

According to Ghana News Agency, the agreement, signed during RMU’s 8th Graduation Ceremony, aims to create a defined pathway for graduates, particularly those from skill-based training programs, to secure jobs in local and international markets, especially within the oil, gas, and maritime industries.

Dr. Jethro Wilbert Brooks Jnr., Acting Vice-Chancellor of RMU, emphasized the university’s commitment to practical industry-focused training at the signing ceremony. He highlighted that the university has been equipping students with necessary knowledge and skills for over six decades, and through this MOU, graduates from programs like FK Training will have immediate employment opportunities.

Dr. Brooks Jnr. noted that Samana GH Ghana, a workforce solutions provider with a strong international presence, especially in Saudi Arabia, is expected to play a crucial role in placing graduates in the global workforce.

Mr. Ahmed Nman (Nana), CEO of Samana GH Ghana, described the partnership as a necessary intervention to meet the growing demand for skilled labor in the oil and gas sector abroad. He emphasized that Samana GH Ghana is mandated to provide skilled personnel to Saudi Arabia, and the MOU with RMU aims to provide job-ready graduates for employment in this sector.

Mr. Nman added that recruitment would begin shortly, focusing on graduates with the required certifications and skills as endorsed by RMU. Under the agreement, the three institutions will work together to absorb RMU graduates into the workforce immediately after graduation, provide certification and operator training in collaboration with RMU, deploy skilled personnel to international markets, particularly Saudi Arabia, and ensure that graduates meet international standards.

He stated that the collaboration highlights a growing effort among stakeholders to bridge the gap between higher education and employment, offering RMU students a more seamless transition into the professional world.

The partnership also aligns with Ghana’s broader agenda to increase youth employment, promote technical and vocational education, and expand the country’s presence in the international labor market.
