Rehabilitation and Expansion of Acherensua-Ntotroso Road to Commence Soon – MP

Accra: The re-rehabilitation and expansion work on the Acherensua-Ntotroso road project will commence soon, Dr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region, has announced. He disclosed that the road project had been awarded on contract and that the contractor would move to the site shortly.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Addo explained that the government, with support from Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL), was funding the project. Speaking in an interview at Acherensua in the Asutifi North District, Dr. Addo mentioned that funds are ready, and the contractors are expected on site after a sod-cutting ceremony. He noted that as a major and among the busiest roads in the region, the road project would be asphalted to meet standards. Upon completion, it is anticipated to open up the area for investments, thereby spurring socio-economic growth and development.

In a related interview, Barima Twereku Ampem II, the Paramount Chief of the Ntotroso Traditional Area, expressed that the particular stretch was very dear to the heart of the people, as its deplorable condition had slowed down economic activities. He highlighted the present condition of the bridge on the road as a death trap and urged the government to expedite action for the construction works to commence, noting that it had been extremely difficult for drivers to use the road as the rains set in. Barima Ampem II also mentioned that the Ntotroso-Kenyasi road needed to be expanded and asphalted, appealing to Newmont Ahafo South Mine to take responsibility and reshape the road for the people.
