“Relentlessness” against Rached Ghannouchi targets Ennahdha movement and all its activists (Statement)

The Ennahdha movement considers that the “relentlessness” against its President Rached Ghannouchi is openly targeting the movement and all its activists as well as the democratic experience in Tunisia.

It is also an attempt to cover up the inevitable failure of the July 25 referendum.

In a statement issued on Friday, following the meeting of its Shura Council, the party blames “the coup authority” for the harassment suffered by Rached Ghannouchi. The party denounces the instrumentalisation of justice and expresses its full solidarity with former Prime Minister Hammadi Jebali (former Secretary General of the movement) against attempts to implicate him in cases for which he has no responsibility.

In another regard, Ennahdha calls, in its statement, to boycott the referendum which will only give legitimacy to the coup constitution and whose objectives are known in advance.

The Shura Council also expresses its rejection of the prosecution of MPs, bloggers and civil society activists, which are “political settlements of scores” against anti-coup supporters.

In the same vein, Ennahdha condemns the attempts to subjugate the judiciary and judges and to turn them into “civil servants who follow orders.”

The movement reaffirms its support for the actions carried out for weeks by the latter to defend the independence of the judiciary against the hegemony of the executive power.
