Sraha: Some residents of the Sraha Electoral Area in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality have appealed to the Municipal Assembly and the government to enhance security in the area by providing adequate streetlights in the community.
According to Ghana News Agency, the residents said the lack of streetlights has been an ongoing issue despite their numerous complaints to the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA). Ms. Mary Akos, a resident, expressed her dissatisfaction with past and present governments, noting that many streetlights are non-functional. She highlighted the fear that grips her while returning home at night due to the darkness that envelops the area.
Ms. Akos shared a personal account of her sister being robbed while returning home one night, emphasizing the urgent need for improved lighting. Another resident, Madam Vida Twumasi, revealed that the absence of streetlights forces them to take longer, well-lit routes instead of shorter, unlit ones.
Mr. Jerry John Adjorlolo, the Assemblyman for the Sraha Electoral Area, acknowledged the residents' concerns, confirming that the issue persists in the community. He mentioned that although he has provided some streetlights, they are insufficient for the entire area. Mr. Adjorlolo stated that he is awaiting assistance from the new government to supply more streetlights.
He confirmed receiving multiple complaints from the community about thefts occurring in the dark, with thieves breaking into homes and snatching personal belongings from residents returning from town. Mr. Adjorlolo urged patience from the community as they seek solutions from authorities and encouraged residents to contribute to fixing some of the streetlights themselves.
