“Role of Women in Preventing Violent Extremism” conference kicks off in Tunis

Countering violent extremism also includes fighting labour refusal and unlawful behaviours, Minister of Women, Family and Children Neziha Laabidi indicated on Tuesday.

Laabidi insisted during a national conference held by her department on Role of Women in Preventing Violent Extremism, the need to abide by the law and respect the State’s sovereignty.

She further highlighted the role of women in countering extremism, announcing, in this respect, the drafting of a presentation of the concept of extremism so as to avoid any confusion.

Taking the floor, Religious Affairs Minister Ahmed Adhoum affirmed that his ministry plays a key role in countering different forms of extremism. Violent extremism surpasses the religious aspect, he indicated.

Preachers and Imams can play a preventative and awareness-rising role in fighting extremism, he added.

According to University Teacher and Expert in this field and in women’s rights Amel Gramy, the geographic space contributes to reviewing and learning the factors fostering the emergence of religious extremism and terrorism.
