(TAP/Khadija Bousselmi) – The Arab Pharmaceutical Industries Company (SAIPH) is set to finish the construction of a new pharmaceutical factory in Côte d’Ivoire by the end of 2023, said the company’s Director General, Ramzi Sandi.
Speaking to TAP, on the sidelines of the visit of a Tunisian business mission to Côte d’Ivoire, he added that this plant will provide 20% of the country’s needs in medication and increase by 20% the production capacity of medicines against 6% currently.
He also said the unit will later become a regional platform for export of medicines.
Sandi said SAIPH laboratories are investing in Côte d’Ivoire, given its strategic importance, the acceleration of economic growth and its rating by investment institutions.
This new factory will produce a wide variety of pharmaceutical products (cardiovascular drugs and diabetes ….) and will provide jobs for about 150 Ivorian workers.
It will attract qualified Tunisian skilled workers to help set up the plant and oversee production and training, especially since the pharmaceutical industries require special protocols and expertise.
A business mission led by the Confederation of Tunisian Citizen Enterprises (CONECT) is visiting Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire from December 4 to 8.
They are 70 investors operating in the sectors of agribusiness, health, information technology and communication, insurance and construction.
In search of sectors with high export potential and opportunities for establishment, these investors will take part in working meetings with high-level Ivorian officials and, workshops on the business climate. Also on the agenda are visits to companies and industrial zones and the holding of a Tunisia-Ivorian business meeting.
