Sami Fehri has not been released from prison as he is unable to pay the four-million dinar bail. His assets are frozen, his lawyer Abdelaziz Essid told TAP on Friday.
The Indictment Chamber specialising in financial Corruption cases at the Tunis Court of Appeal decided, Thursday, to release on bail businessman and head of Elhiwar Ettounsi TV Channel Sami Fehri. The amount of the deposit was set at 4 million dinars.
Spokesperson for the Indictment Chamber Habib Torkhani told TAP the decision involves the Cactus-prod case, the circumstances of which date back to 2011, in connection with the Tunisian Television.
The Public Prosecutor at the Tunis Court of First Instance issued, last March 12, a wanted notice against Sami Fehri following an eight-year sentence in prison. Last March 16, he surrendered to justice.
Sami Fehri is being prosecuted in a case brought by Tunisian Television where he is accused, along with Belhassen Trabelsi (son-in-law of the former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali), of embezzling public funds amounting to 25 million dinars.
