Second edition of forum “Mobilities and Diasporas” May 9 and 10 in Tunis and Sfax

The French Office of Immigration and Integration (OFI), in partnership with the French Institute of Tunisia (IFT), is organising the second edition of the Forum “Mobilitiess and Diasporas” on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 May at the French Institute of Tunis and Sfax.

After a first edition that highlighted the mutually beneficial aspects of migration, mainly in terms of contributions to development, this second Forum, informs the IFT, will discuss migration from a Euro-African perspective and will associate more broadly national and international actors invested in migration issues in Tunisia. Synergies and challenges combining migration and economic development, international cooperation, support for civil society and governance will be highlighted.

Initially, the Forum will be dedicated to high-level meetings that will engage Tunisian institutions (State Secretariat for Immigration and Tunisians Expatriates, National Agency for Employment and Self-Employment, Office of Tunisians Abroad, Office of Emigration and Foreign Labour, National Observatory on Migration, Directorate General for International Cooperation on Migration), with French partners (Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Expertise France, French Development Agency) and European (Delegation of the European Union and Member States) around the Tunisian migration strategy to better mobilise the diaspora, promote reintegration and local development.

During the second day, the discussions will highlight the mobility mechanisms that exist between France and Tunisia and present their opportunities in terms of training, employment, entrepreneurship and innovation. Several workshops will recontextualise the reality of migration in the African and Euro-Mediterranean areas and will discuss, in the case of Tunisia, the issues arising from its status as a destination country for sub-Saharan migrants.

Tthe “village of actors of migration in Tunisia”, open to the general public, where public institutions, international organisations and civil society will discusss migration issues.

Finally, a cultural programme will echo the issues raised throughout the Forum “Mobilities and diasporas”: the photographic exhibition “Borders” by Jean-Michel Andre (May 4), an author meeting with Wilfried N’Sounde around his book “One Ocean, Two Seas, Three Continents” (May 7), Samia Orosmane’s Show (May 10), a concert by Farafina Kan (May 10), and a screening of Walid Mattar’s film “Wind of the North”.
