Second international forum on promotion and dissemination of culture of good governance kicks off

Works of the 2nd international forum on the civil society’s new cultural roles in the promotion and dissemination of the culture of good governance under the sign: “Together for the promotion of the culture of good governance” kicked off on Friday in Tunis.

Taking the floor, ISESCO Director-General Abdelaziz Othman Touijri said that the organisation’s participation in this forum is part of the increased importance lent to the fight against corruption through the consecration of the culture of good governance and its firm conviction that the major role of civil society lies in the dissemination of this culture.

He pointed out that the Islamic countries have a pressing need today to introduce good governance policies to deal with the phenomenon of corruption in order to make the most of their capacities, means and economic riches, stressing that such strategies will not be possible without political will and joining efforts at the regional and international levels.

In his speech read out by Culture Minister Mohamed Zine el Abidine, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said that the State by all its structures and institutions is called for a total revision to fight against corruption in all sectors, a corruption that threatens the destiny of the people. Fight against corruption, he added, requires the intervention of the media and civil society to change attitudes and the introduction of the rules of good governance, firmly calling to take serious positions and to be constantly vigilant, while continuing to defend action and follow-up plans against any form of corruption that constitutes an evil that threatens the country’s riches and harms the values of work and citizenship.

Organised by the Culture Ministry, the National Anti-Corruption Authority (INLUCC), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUMI) and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the two-day forum offers an opportunity to examine conceptual approaches to corruption, the role of civil society and the media in promoting the culture of good governance and its impact on long-term development opportunities, the role of universities and scientific research institutions in spreading the culture of good governance, the efforts of international and regional organisations and bodies and their pioneering experiences in promoting good governance.
