Second phase of Violence against Women Awareness Campaign launched Friday

A campaign to raise awareness about the many facets of violence against women with the slogan “You’re not alone” (Maadesh Wa7dek) was launched on November 22, at the initiative of the United Nations to Tunisia.

The campaign, part of the 2017 edition of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based violence, focuses on the theme of “No one is left out: Ending violence against women and girls.

According to a press release Friday by the UN to Tunisia, the 2nd of the campaign is launched on November 24 to reveal its central message: All acts of violence must be rejected and victims can benefit from the care and support of the State and civil society organisations.

The United Nations is working with the Tunisian State and the civil society to improve multi-sectoral care services, the press release specified.

The campaign seeks to draw the public attention in the first phase to the inexcusable arguments often used to justify acts of violence against women and girls, the same source said.

According to a study conducted in 2010 by the National Board of Family and Population (ONFP), one out of two Tunisian women said they had experienced one or more forms of violence. Over half of women affirm that violence is ordinary and does not deserve to be talked about, while 73% of women in the study say they do not know who to go to when they are abused, according to the same survey.
