Secondary education: General Federation decides for “continued suspension of classes and withholding marks

The Board of the General Federation of Secondary Education has decided for “the continued suspension of classes and withholding marks, in accordance with the decisions of the sector administrative body”, calling on teachers and sector union structures to “ensure their success with the same militant spirit”.

In a statement issued Monday evening, bearing the signature of Secretary General Lassad Yacoubi, the Board of the General Federation called on the secretaries general of the federal sections or their representatives to participate in a consultation meeting Tuesday, April 24 at 11:00 am at the headquarters of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT).

This position of the general federation of secondary education diverges with the decision of the administrative committee of the UGTT which called for the resumption of classes Tuesday and presenting marks to the administration and holding on the same day a meeting between the government and the general federation of secondary education, while leaving its meeting open to monitor the progress of the negotiations with the government.

This announcement was made by the Secretary General of the UGTT, Noureddine Taboubi, at the end of the meeting of the Administrative Committee held Monday in Hammamet.

“The committee has reached this agreement, which includes handing over marks to show that it is reaching out to negotiations while paying attention to meeting the legitimate demands of teachers,” he said.

He stressed that “the negotiations must be serious and crowned by an agreement acceptable within reasonable time, while warning that “procrastination can push the UGTT to declare regional and sector strikes to support the educators “.
