Cape coast: A large-scale simulation involving approximately 200 security personnel was conducted in the Central Region to test kidnapping and rescue operations at key locations within the Cape Coast Metropolis. The exercise, which took place on Thursday, spanned five critical sites, including Ankaful Prisons and Cape Coast Castle. According to Ghana News Agency, the personnel were drawn from multiple security entities, including the Bomb Squad of the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, and National Security, among others. ASP Johnson Adusei-Poku, the Director for the Judicial Protection Unit at the Ghana Police Headquarters, oversaw the operations. The primary objective of the exercise was to assess the effectiveness of interagency collaboration, readiness, and command and control capabilities among the participating security agencies. The simulation, which featured mock scenarios of extremist threats and hostage situations, was designed to evaluate infrastructure and logistical capacities. Despite c ausing concern among bystanders, who reported the events to local radio stations, the exercise was largely commended for its realistic approach and the dedication of the security personnel involved. One of the highlights of the operation occurred at Ankaful Prisons, where security forces executed a successful rescue of prison officers held captive in a mock scenario. Military personnel stationed several kilometers away at Abura Dunkwa responded swiftly, ensuring a prompt resolution. Additional scenarios included thwarting an alleged extremist attack at a popular pub and a successful rescue at a GOIL fuel station, where female officers posed as attendants to enhance the realism of the exercise. The Cape Coast Castle and other locations witnessed seamless coordination and effective response from the security teams. Cape Coast's regional minister, Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, praised the security agencies for their commitment to maintaining national peace and order, particularly in the lead-up to the December 7 elections. She assured the public of continued governmental support to uphold security and harmony across the nation.
