Selliti: 1060 corruption cases submitted to Judicial Division since September 2017

Some 1,060 cases of financial and administrative corruption have been submitted to the Judicial Economic and Financial Division since September 2017, Sofien Selliti, spokesperson for the Division said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference, Selliti added that 339 cases have already been closed, stating the arrest of 38 individuals for suspicions of corruption, money laundering and customs crimes.

“Committal orders have been issued against most of the defendants,” Selliti told reporters.

In the same vein, Selliti said the National Anti-Corruption Agency (INLUCC) had brought 95 corruption cases before the judicial economic and financial division, adding that that several judicial investigations were initiated to this effect.

On the other hand, the spokesperson for the judicial division said that several other corruption cases have been closed, all the more, that the anti-corruption body does not have the prerogatives of research and investigation.

“Of a total of 91 cases of financial corruption, some 40 cases have been ruled on since 2017,” said Selliti, adding that the absence of Brigades specialising in cases of financial and administrative corruption would be the cause of the delay in the review of most complaints filed.
