Sfax: 16 Sub-Saharan migrants admitted to Habib Bourguiba University Hospital

The emergency department at the Habib Bourguiba University Hospital in Sfax received, on Saturday evening, 16 surviving sub-Saharan migrants (9 children, 6 women and 1 man).

They were rescued in international waters by the Italian authorities and carried to Sfax-Thyna Airport aboard two Italian helicopters, regional director of health, Ali Ayadi told TAP.

A woman died on arrival at the hospital. Two other women are in critical condition. The other survivors are unscathed.

The cause of the victim’s death is still unknown, pending the autopsy, the source said.

The transfer of migrants from the airport to the hospital was made by ambulances of the University Hospital, in co-ordination with the National Army and the Tunisian Red Crescent.
