President Kais Saied focused at a meeting Thursday with Minister of Interior Taoufik Charfeddine and Director General of National Security Mourad Saidane, on the tragedy of the sinking of a migrant boat off Zarzis last September 21.
He stressed the need to expedite investigations and provide reinforcement to the units that went to Medenine to allow the families of victims and all Tunisians to know the whole truth.
He said he is following this case on a daily basis, stressing that there will be no impunity for anyone brought before the Justice whatever his status, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.
The President of the Republic then addressed the fight against speculation and price increases. «What often happens is that small traders are prosecuted, while big monopolists escape any prosecution. They go unabated and undermine the rights of citizens to subsistence and health, he pointed out.»
Saied also stressed at the meeting the need to address trafficking and consumption of narcotics, a scourge that is spreading day by day. He pointed to the existence of organized networks within the country that have links with foreign countries, as he recalled the seizure of more than one million psychotropic tablets that recently entered Tunisia.
On another register, the President of the Republic commended the security forces for their efforts to ensure the smooth running of the Francophonie Summit in Djerba, despite the attempts of some parties greedy for power and money that seek to destroy the State and society, according to the same source.
