Small cabinet meeting to discuss STIP issue soon (Noureddine Taboubi)

An agreement has been reached with Prime Minister Youssef Chahed to hold a small Cabinet meeting as soon as possible to discuss the issue of the Tunisian Tire Industries Company (STIP) in Msaken, Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Nouredine Taboubi.

“This is in order to put an end to the crisis between the general management and the representatives of workers,” he added during a support visit he made to the company’s staff.

The trade union official said the Minister of Social Affairs contacted him on Sunday to inform him of the willingness of the new investor who currently runs the company to get things back on track.

He also stressed that the trade union organisation will not abandon the rights of STIP employees and will never accept the questionable practices of the general management.

In this regard, he called on the Government to appoint a judicial administrator to head the company.

STIP-Msaken employees had staged a series of rallies in recent months in protest against the non-payment of their wages.
