The National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) condemned the “violent” attack suffered on Friday by journalists of investigative TV show «the Four Truths» aired on private TV channel Elhiwar Ettounsi. Assaultors were agents of the Tunisian National Railways Company (SNCFT) of Tebourba, Governorate of Manouba, the SNJT said Saturday in a statement.
The union demanded that the company open an investigation into the circumstances of the attack, which occurred in one of its headquarters.
The SNJT urged judicial authorities to prosecute the perpetrators of the attack, recalling the crucial role of the media, especially investigative journalism, in the fight against corruption and the protection of human rights. It stressed the imperative to respect the right of journalists to access information.
During a visit to the SNCFT, the guard of the facility assaulted the team of journalists, while a group of individuals seized their equipment, the union said.
The team contaced the local police station, which dispatched a unit to make findings on the violence suffered.
