SNJT condemns killing of Palestinian journalist in West Bank

The National Union of Tunisian Journalists condemned the killing of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh on Wednesday by the army of the occupation forces.

One of the most prominent figures on Al-Jazeera TV, Abu Akleh was targeted while covering Zionist army attacks in the West Bank refugee camp of Jenin.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the union denounced a “heinous crime” that adds to the violations committed by the Zionists against brave journalists in Palestine. The Zionist entity is directly responsible for this cold-blooded murder, the union accused.

Following the tragedy, the SNJT addressed condolences to the Palestinian Journalists’ Union as well as to the colleagues of the deceased journalist at Qatari channel al-Jazeera.

This assassination is a direct result of the silence of the international community in the face of the repeated crimes of the occupation forces against the Palestinian people, the union said.

“It is a war crime against the Palestinian people, journalists and media.”

The SNJT called on the Tunisian government to take a clear and firm stance against this “cowardly” crime.

In response to this tragedy that touches the Arab and international press, journalists and civil society activists gathered outside the SNJT premises to denounce the murder of Shireen Abu Akleh
