Social Affairs Minister on working visit to Oslo, with senior officials of UTICA and UGTT

Minister of Social Affairs, Malek Zahi is on working visit to the Norwegian capital, Oslo, from January 15 to 17.

He is accompanied during this visit by a tripartite delegation consisting of Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Saied, Secretary General of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), Nourredine Taboubi and President of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), Samir Majoul, said a statement of the Ministry.

This working visit comes at the invitation of the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions and the President of the Norwegian Confederation of Enterprises.

High-level meetings are planned as part of this visit whose objective is to strengthen bilateral relations in the social and economic fields.

The visit comes at a time when the UGTT is preparing to launch an initiative of national salvation in order to find a solution to the political and economic crisis that the country is experiencing for several months. This initiative is launched in collaboration with the National Bar Association, the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH) and the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights.

A similar initiative was launched in 2013 by the UGTT, UTICA, LTDH and the Council of the National Bar Association to bring the country out of a serious political crisis against a backdrop of political assassinations. It helped to unblock the political transition and earned this quartet the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize.
