Social and solidarity economy helps create balance between social justice and economic efficiency (Taboubi)

Social and solidarity economy helps ensure a certain balance between the principles of social justice and economic efficiency, Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Nourredine Taboubi said Wednesday.

Speaking during a national conference held in Tunis on this theme, Tabboubi stressed that the principles of social and solidarity economy including freedom, voluntary membership and participatory democracy will make this economy a strategic and promising choice and one of the key attributes of the country’s development.

The infatuation of several countries for social and solidarity economy indicates a certain extent of awareness of the important role it plays in fighting insecurity resulting from globalisation, he argued.

He further stressed that the strategic study on social and solidarity economy conducted by the Development Ministry whose results were presented during this meeting revealed that this sector is full of huge potentials notably in terms of agriculture, health education and social welfare.

In this respect, he called on the need to further organise the social and solidarity economy sector and train those operating in it.

He also recalled that his organisation had already called for the need to promulgate an organic law on social and solidarity economy.
