Some 200 thousand tonnes of olive oil expected to be exported (ONH)

The olive oil is currently priced between 9.5 and 11 dinars per liter in different olive oil mills nationwide, CEO of the National Olive Oil Office (French: ONH) Chokri Bayoudh told TAP.

Tunisia is expecting a record production of olive oil exceeding 260 thousand tones, 200 thousand tonnes of which dedicated to export, he specified.

Olive oil will be available in the local market in abundant quantities, around 60 thousand tonnes, while the national consumption varies between 35 and 40 thousand tonnes per year, Bayoudh assured on the fringes of a meeting about the oil sector in Tunisia.

The official recalled that olive oil represents 50% of the country’s overall agro-food exports, stressing that Tunisia yearly provides 34% of world exports of olive oil with an average of 150 thousand tonnes.

In addition to our two main clients (the European Union and the United States of America) Tunisia exports olive oil to 54 destinations around the world.
