Some forty fires that have destroyed nearly 100 hectares of Aleppo pines forests in Nefza, north and south of Beja, as well as in Medjez El Bab, were brought under control, Director General of Civil Protection Colonel Malek Mihoub told TAP Wednesday.

Civil Protection units in Beja are currently in high alert in Jebel Hdada between Nefza and Sejnane (Beja governorate), to prevent the fire from reaching Nefza.

Specific measures have been taken to protect the residents of the Tella BouAcha locality near the mountain.

These series of fires had broken out at the same time in several areas since last Thursday and especially during the past 72 hours, required the deployment of the National Army and Forest Services, in addition to the Civil Protection, Colonel Mihoub affirmed.

The fires were caused by the heat wave, several sources reported without ruling out possible criminal acts.
