Kumasi: Some residents of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, have warmly welcomed the nomination of Dr. Frank Amoakohene as the new regional minister-designate. The nominee, who currently serves as the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is being celebrated for his youthful energy and potential to bring positive change to the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, most residents expressed their approval after President John Dramani Mahama made the announcement, stating that his nomination was a step in the right direction. They believe it was a strategic decision by President Mahama to address longstanding challenges in the region, particularly in infrastructure and youth unemployment.
Mr. Kofi Nkansah, a youth activist, remarked on the significance of Dr. Amoakohene’s nomination, highlighting his understanding of the youth and his potential to work diligently for the benefit of the Ashanti region. Many residents have identified key projects they expect the incoming Regional Minister to prioritize for early completion. These projects include the stalled second phase of the Kejetia-Central Market Redevelopment Project, the Suame Inter-change, other road networks, and various hospital projects that have been uncompleted for a long time.
Mr. Nkansah further expressed his concerns about youth unemployment, stating that Dr. Amoakohene, being a young person himself, would likely be attentive to the issues facing young people in the region. He expressed hope that together, they could work towards addressing these challenges.
Dr. Amoakohene’s appointment has been met with optimism, with many hoping his leadership will mark the beginning of transformative development in the region.
