The civil prison of Messadine (Governorate of Sousse) has recorded 292 cases of infection by the Coronavirus following the release of the results of 1,031 rapid screening tests carried out, Regional Health Director Mohamed Ghodbani told TAP on Tuesday.

The official said that the infections were detected during an initial screening test which confirmed the infection of 27 prisoners transferred from Kairouan to the civil prison of Messadine.

Following this result, a rapid screening operation for COVID-19 was conducted among all prisoners and prison officers, the official said.

Besides, the vaccination campaign continues within the prison, the same source said, pointing out that 406 people among prisoners and officers have been vaccinated so far.
