Spain: Psychotropic Drugs Trafficking International Organization Dismantled with Collaboration of Moroccan Police

This operation was carried out by the Customs Surveillance Service of the Fiscal Agency and the Tangier MED Police Cooperation Center reporting to the International Cooperation Directorate, through the General Directorate of National Security of Morocco (DGSN), the Spanish police said in a release.

The investigation led to the largest seizure of this type of drug in Spain – 200,000 benzodiazepine tablets -, the arrest of 8 people and the seizure of more than 500,000 psychotropic tablets in Spain and Morocco.

The operation, which was carried out in four phases, was conducted in the provinces of Lleida, where the head of the organization was based, Madrid and Alicante, where the main supplier of psychotropic drugs was arrested.

The investigation began in June 2021 thanks to the exchange of information with the Tangier MED Police Cooperation Center reporting to the International Cooperation Division of the Spanish National Police through the DGSN, said the same source.

The investigators found out that the psychotropic drugs had been obtained by falsifying medical prescriptions.

The network used people with a criminal record and addicted to narcotic substances to obtain the tablets and send them to Morocco, according to the same source.
