ACCRA: The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has pledged to provide the Ghana Armwrestling Federation with a modern training center and a secretariat for the Armwrestling Federation of Africa. This announcement follows a directive from President Nana Akufo-Addo after a meeting with the federation's leadership at the Jubilee House. According to Ghana News Agency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the government's dedication to supporting armwrestling in Ghana and across Africa during the meeting, noting the sport's significant achievements. The President instructed the sports minister to offer all necessary support to the federation, acknowledging their efforts in promoting Ghana on the international stage. The Ghana Armwrestling Federation has faced challenges in securing a training facility, making this presidential directive a pivotal moment for the organization. Minister Ussif reiterated the government's commitment, citing armwrestling's rapid growth and international impact, particularly following the recent African Games. Minister Ussif stated that the National Sports Authority has been directed to allocate office space for the confederation, with the Borteyman Sports Complex designated as the training venue for both national and international events. He also highlighted the leadership roles Ghanaians have taken in continental sports organizations, including Mr. Charles Osei Asibey's position in the Africa Armwrestling Federation. The minister encouraged the Ghana Armwrestling President to leverage his global influence to advocate for armwrestling's inclusion in the Olympic Games. President Charles Osei Asibey expressed appreciation for the government's support, noting the federation's accomplishments, including winning 350 international medals.
