Accra: The Internal Audit Team of Stanbic Bank Ghana has donated a Firefly Phototherapy Unit valued at GHS 68,500 to the Ga North Municipal Hospital to support the treatment of neonatal jaundice. The donation, presented at the hospital in Ofankor-Asofan, is part of Stanbic Bank’s commitment to driving growth and supporting the wellbeing of communities across Ghana.
According to Ghana News Agency, presenting the equipment, Samuel Agyei Antwi, Head of Internal Audit at Stanbic Bank Ghana, said the gesture reflected the bank’s purpose of driving growth where it mattered most. ‘At Stanbic Bank, we say Africa is our home and we drive her growth. Bringing it closer, Ghana is our home, and we are committed to driving Ghana’s growth. We understand the critical role Ga North Municipal Hospital plays in this community and to the nation, and that is why we decided to present this essential equipment to support your work and save lives,’ he said.
Receiving the unit on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Victor O. Caesar, Medical Superintendent of Ga North Municipal Hospital, expressed deep appreciation to Stanbic Bank for addressing a long-standing need. ‘This machine, though compact, is very expensive and extremely effective in clearing neonatal jaundice within 24 hours. For years, we have been constrained by funding challenges, and many babies had to be referred elsewhere for treatment. This donation will significantly improve the quality of care we provide to newborns. We are truly grateful to Stanbic Bank for this invaluable support,’ he said.
The Ga North Municipal Hospital recorded 1,113 deliveries in the first half of 2025 alone, with an average of five newborns per week diagnosed with neonatal jaundice. In the past six months, about 30 babies had to be referred to other facilities due to the absence of an intensive phototherapy unit. The newly donated Firefly Phototherapy Unit will strengthen the hospital’s capacity to manage such cases, reduce referrals, and improve survival outcomes for newborns.
This initiative underscores Stanbic Bank Ghana’s ongoing commitment to community development and social impact through targeted investments in healthcare, education, and social welfare.
