State will not give up subsidy of basic commodities, says Saied

(TAP) – “Exercising its role in ensuring social justice, the State will not give up the subsidy of basic commodities as has been claimed,” affirmed President of the Republic Kais Saied.

He pointed to the need to keep working to bring prices down, as he met Thursday with Prime Minister Najla Bouden.

“Those who are bent on raising prices or illegally stockpiling certain products have goals that run counter to the Tunisian people’s legitimate aspirations for work, freedom and national dignity,” he specified.

While reasserting his commitment to the State’s social role, Kais Saied underlined that it is out of the question to sell off public enterprises and establishments, but rather to clean them up and address the causes that have led to the situation faced by the majority of them.

The Head of State stressed in this connection the need to rely on oneself and on national potential.

“Social justice is the essence of stability and can only be achieved through the fair distribution of wealth and the eradication of the corruption that plagues many businesses,” he said.

The meeting further focused on a set of issues related to the smooth running of some public services, reads a Presidency of the Republic press release.
