Sudan Defeats Ghana 2-0 in Crucial 2025 AFCON Qualifier Match

Khartoum: Sudan secured a vital 2-0 victory over Ghana in the latest match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, complicating Ghana's chances of advancing in the tournament. According to Ghana News Agency, the match saw Sudan's team, the Falcons, display remarkable skill and coordination, especially in the second half, which led to their win. Ahmed Al-Tash and Mohamed Abdel Raman were the scorers for Sudan, each finding the net within a span of three minutes in the second half of the game. This victory places Sudan in a strong position in Group C, maintaining their second place with seven points, just two points behind the group leader, Angola. On the other hand, Ghana, traditionally a powerhouse in African football, finds itself struggling at third place with only two points after this defeat. The first half of the game was dominated by Sudan, with Ghana's goalkeeper Ati-Zigi making several crucial saves to keep the Black Stars in the match. Despite these efforts, the second half saw a dip in Ghana's defensive performance, which Sudan capitalized on effectively. Al-Tash's goal in the 62nd minute finally broke the deadlock, followed quickly by Abdel Raman's goal, which further dampened the spirits of the Ghanaian team. Ghana attempted to recover and push back in the latter stages of the game, but Sudan's defense held strong, denying Ghana any chance to score even a single goal. The match ended with Sudan taking all three points, leaving Ghana to reconsider their strategies for the upcoming fixtures if they wish to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
