Support for Young Pupil’s Eye Surgery Rallies Community Effort

ACCRA: The La-Dadekotopon Municipal Education Directorate has stepped forward with a significant show of support, donating GHS11,000 to aid nine-year-old Joshua Obodai Torgbor, a Basic '4' pupil from African Unity Basic School in La, Accra, who recently underwent eye surgery. The funds were raised through contributions collected from students across all Basic Schools within the municipality, uniting the community in empathy for the young boy's battle with a cancerous eye condition. According to Ghana News Agency, the presentation was made by Madam Habiiba Kotoma, the Municipal Director of Education. She emphasized the communal support from the entire school district as Joshua underwent treatment, underscoring the collective effort to assist him. Madam Kotoma expressed her belief in Joshua's resilience, hoping for his swift recovery and return to his educational path. "We'll continue to remember you in our prayers," she affirmed, extending both emotional and financial support. Madam Kotoma also advised Joshu a's mother to closely monitor his recovery and keep the hospital informed of any post-operative concerns, assuring her that the Education Directorate remains available for further assistance. She commended Joshua as a promising student, noting his resilience and intelligence. Joshua's mother, Madam Patience Mensah, conveyed her heartfelt gratitude for the community's timely support, which has been crucial in managing the ongoing treatment expenses. She recounted the onset of the eye issue two years prior, which began when a football incident at school resulted in severe injury, leading to a series of medical evaluations and treatments. Madam Lydia Osei, the Headmistress of African Unity Basic School, expressed her emotional response to Joshua's situation and her prompt action in seeking support from the Municipal Director of Education. Her appeal for assistance mobilized the initiative among students and staff, highlighting a shared commitment to Joshua's well-being. She also called upon individuals and stu dents to keep Joshua in their thoughts and prayers.
