Supreme Judicial Council’s Bouzakher says notified of “serious threats”

President of the Supreme Judicial Council (French: CSM) Youssef Bouzakher said he has been notified by the Interior Ministry and the public prosecutor’s office of “serious threats to his safety.”

“A police security was offered by the ministry,” he further told TAP on Monday.

Earlier, Bouzakher told TAP the headquarters of the Supreme Judicial Council were closed down and police banned staff access to the building.

Bouzakher decried a breach of the Constitution and guarantees of the independence of the judiciary following President Kais Saied’s decision to dissolve the Council. The Head of State accused the CSM of being biased and serving a number of interests.
