Tabboubi: UGTT endorsed July 25 decisions as bold decisions were needed

The decision to support July 25 demonstrations and measures announced by the President of the Republic on that same evening demonstrates the firm will to respect the people’s will, Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (French: UGTT) Nouredine Tabboubi said Thursday in Sfax.

The labour union is convinced there “was need for bold decisions to salvage the country,” he further said on the sidelines of August 5, 1947 battle observances.

Supporting July 25 measures ” is not a blank cheque,” he said, urging the President of the Republic to outline a clear roadmap and swiftly appoint a premier PM and a cabinet.

He warned, in this vein, any executive power or government against undermining socio-economic gains, going back on previous agreements and breaching individual freedoms and human rights.

Commenting on potential early elections against the backdrop of the current political crisis, Tabboubi said this will be a possible scenario in the event of different political parties failing to reach an agreement.
