Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi will soon start talks in Geneva with Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The objective of the meeting is to accelerate the acquisition of vaccines against COVID-19 within the framework of the international initiative Covax, said Monday Minister of Health Faouzi Mahdi.
He said during a hearing session in parliament held with the health and social affairs committee, that it was agreed under the Covax initiative to acquire 4.5 million doses of vaccine but only 250 thousand doses of Pfiser vaccine and about 250 thousand doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have been received.
Last February, the parliament passed a law authorising the government to join the Covax initiative to facilitate the purchase of the vaccine against the disease.
