Tataouine/Protests: National guard officer seriously injured

A National Guard officer was seriously injured on Monday in Tataouine city after being hit by a brick at the head (at the level of the ear) as he was passing in front of a group of protestors.

The wounded was rushed to the regional hospital where he underwent a surgery. He is currently in the resuscitation unit, according to a security source.

An investigation was initiated to determine the circumstances of the attack, Public Prosecutor Ahmed Bourkhis told TAP.

Protests resumed on Monday morning downtown Tataouine where protesters blocked the main road by a lorry transporting sand and obliged the trucker to discharge the content in the middle of the road, demanding the release of inmates.

Security forces had dismantled on Sunday night tents set up by the protestors outside the Tataouine governorate’s headquarters over a month ago.

Two persons had been arrested including the co-ordinator of El-Kamour sit-in Tarak Haddad.

The demonstrators protested against the delay in the implementation of El Kamour agreement notably points regarding recruitments in the environment company and the allocation of funds for investment and development.
